Wow. This school year has been...well, a lot of things, actually. Some good, some not so good...a blur! In the middle of it all, I made the decision to move up to the middle school level for this coming school year so that I could be in one building. It was a difficult decision, leaving the friends I had made at my elementary buildings and leaving the crazy that is K-5 (who doesn't love it when kids give you hugs and then tell you they love you simply because you gave them a book?). But for certain reasons, I needed to make the change.
I'm nervous. I'm excited. It's been 4 years since I've been with the middle schoolers. Eek!
Anyway, I still plan on updating this blog with anything I find interesting or important, regardless of age. However, I've always had a chapter book focus, so I'll probably be posting more about that than picture books in the future. Which brings me to my next topic: my favorite latest books!
I've updated my Book Recs page with a few of my newest favorites so be sure to check that out. It's mostly picture books, since a lot of the chapter books I've read recently and loved I posted on the Hilliard Books site, but there are a couple new chapter books up there as well.
I plan on updating this blog with a few of my favorite authors/illustrators every so often, highlighting what I find makes them so special. Oliver Jeffers, Mac Barnett, Bob Shea, Jennifer Nielsen, Dan Gemeinhart...just to name a few examples. I have many "classic" loves as well, but I want to focus on those who are writing new books now. That will be coming soon!
