The Book Talker began in March of 2015, when my friend and colleague Jill (The Page Turning Librarian) encouraged me to start a blog. Seeing how book talks are my favorite thing to do, the title was born!
This is my 8th year in education. I spent 2 years as a 5th grade teacher before becoming a media specialist. I have been a media specialist for 6 years now, and have been in 3 different districts during the course of that time. Currently, I work at two K-5 elementary schools in Hilliard, Ohio -- J.W. Reason Elementary and Beacon Elementary.
I was born and raised in Ohio, and apart from a 2 year stint on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, I've lived in Ohio my entire life. I grew up in Sylvania, Ohio and moved to New Albany, Ohio when I was in high school. I attended Miami University to get my bachelor's degree before attending Kent State University for my master's degree in Library and Information Science. I now call Columbus home.
Don't ask me about fiction books for adults -- I don't read them. I prefer to read children's and young adult books for my own enjoyment; it's a huge benefit that my job description also calls for a lot of reading of children's books. I love it when I can talk about books with kids and get them excited to read! Many people don't realize how much of an impact it can be, simply talking about books with kids.
I am always learning and growing, so feedback is always appreciated. Feel free to tweet me or email me! Links are in the green dots above.
